Helping scientists transform their elucidations into illustrations.
About the Artist
Hi there! I’m Lindsay, a biologist and illustrator with a lifelong passion for arthropods and plants.
Driven by an interest in biomimicry and interdisciplinary science, my undergraduate studies at Penn State University focused on biomaterials engineering and entomology.
During this time, I led two research projects: one investigating caddisfly silk as a potential model for biomedical wet sutures, and the other testing various hydrogel chemistries for 3D printing cellular scaffolds and flexible electronics.
In addition to my coursework, I gained practical experience through three internships: identifying macroinvertebrates to assess freshwater health, studying the spotted lanternfly’s impact on grapevines, and curating dragonfly naiads at the Frost Entomological Museum. These experiences deepened my fascination with insect-plant interactions and their broader biological implications.
I earned a Ph.D. in plant and soil sciences at the University of Delaware, where I applied mechanical testing strategies to maize brace roots and assessed the mechanical implications of insect herbivory.
After illustrating my own doctoral work, I opened LindZeamays Illustration to manifest my dream of helping more scientists visuallly communicate their research.
My mission for LindZeamays illustration is to create accessible, engaging science visuals that improve communication and science literacy for researchers and the public alike. Accessible science facilitates interdisciplinary research, tackles global challenges, and saves lives.
